Detecting primordial features with LISA

چکیده

Abstract Oscillations in the frequency profile of stochastic gravitational wave background are a characteristic prediction small-scale features during inflation. In this paper we present first investigation detection prospects such oscillations with upcoming space-based observatory LISA. As proof principle, show for selection feature signals that can be reconstructed LISA, employing method based on principal component analysis. We then perform Fisher forecast parameters describing oscillatory signal. For sharp distinguish between contributions to induced inflation and post-inflationary period, which peak at different frequencies. find latter case amplitude oscillation is expected measurable < 10% accuracy if corresponding satisfies h 2 Ω GW ≳ 10 -12 -10 -11 , while inflationary-era waves requires higher as only appear UV tail spectrum. resonant LISA maximised falls into range ω log = 4 10. Our results confirm worthwhile target future efforts offer key experimentally testing small scales.

Detecting Eccentric Globular Cluster Binaries with LISA

The energy carried in the gravitational wave signal from an eccentric binary is spread across several harmonics of the orbital frequency. The inclusion of the harmonics in the analysis of the gravitational wave signal increases the signal-to-noise ratio of the detected signal for binaries whose fundamental frequency is below the galactic confusion-limited noise cut-off. This can allow for an im...

Detecting Primordial Stars

We study the detectability of primordial metal-free stars, both through direct searches for their emission, as well as searches for the resulting supernovae. We show that enrichment is a local process that takes place over an extended redshift range. While the duration of the transition from a metal-free to an enriched universe depends on several unknown factors, in all models late-forming meta...

Detecting Primordial Stars

We discuss the expected properties of the first stellar generations in the Universe. We find that it is possible to discern truly primordial populations from the next generation of stars by measuring the metallicity of high-z star forming objects. The very low background of the future James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) will enable it to image and study first-light sources at very high redshifts,...

Detecting an anisotropic gravitational wave background with LISA∗

We address the problem of detecting a stochastic background originated by an anisotropic population of sources, like the galactic binaries, by exploiting the amplitude modulation of the signal as the antenna changes its orientation with respect to fixed stars. This modulation, if observed, could help in discriminating the background generated by galactic binaries from the isotropic gravitationa...

Detecting torsion from LISA and teleparallel gravity

Torsion detection from totally skew symmetric torsion waves in the context of teleparallel gravity is discussed. A gedanken experiment to detect Cartan’s contortion based on a circle of particles not necessarily spinning is proposed. It is shown that by making use of previous value of contortion at the surface of the Earth computed by Nitsch of 10−24s−1 a relative displacement of 10−21 is obtai...
